New Projekt - recommendation

Hello,

I´m working now with the xdk for the first time, before I got some expirience with ardunio and first of all I want to know, if there is a project, I could start or some preference you did which is good to start with. I want to take expierince before I collect it with a raspberry pi or an arduino board.

I´m working inside an office and don´t know how to use it correctly or rather which use I can get from it.

If there are some project presented before, I would be glad if you could comment the link. Thank you for your support

Hello Merve,

First of all, I would like to welcome you to the XDK community.

In a way, the XDK is similar to the Arduino. It is programmed in C, offers some serial ports for connectivity and in general, it is an embedded device.

The way the XDK distinguishes itself from the Arduino is the fact that the XDK is already fitted with numerous sensors, a WiFi and a BLE chip and the Workbench comes with an SDK, offering easy to use high level API.

This allows for users to quickly and efficiently develop a prototype for most IoT use cases. Especially since the XDK is already fitted with chips and sensors, unlike an Arduino, where sensors and modules first have to be attached.

This makes working with the XDK a smoother experience, especially in regards to the latency between an idea and a concrete implementation.

For an overview of some of the capabilities of the XDK and the corresponding guides, please visit the Learning Section . That page is split into three different sections, which are Overview, Beginner and Advanced.

  1. Overview: This section provides a broad overview from general information to technical specifics regarding the XDK.
  2. Beginner: This section helps new users with the first steps. Especially the Workbench First Steps Guide delivers a good way for new users to get quick insight into programming with the XDK.
  3. Advanced: This section offers guides on various modules of the Software Development Kit on the XDK.
I would recommend to start with the First Steps Guide. This will help you step by step to work with the XDK itself and the Workbench.

The Guides will answer most of a users questions. For everything else, you can use the community for support.

Some use cases are already implemented as examples, which are available in the Welcome-Screen of the XDK-Workbench.

Additionally, some projects are presented here in the Project Exchange category of the Community Forum.

Please tell me if this was helpful, and do not hesitate to ask further questions.

Kind regards,
Franjo

Hello Franjo,

thank you verry much for your fast reply. I already see the learning guides, but some how, I thought, I could copy an instruction for my better understanding.

I will now follow the steps in the guide and if I get problems I will ask again!

:)

Thank you!

Hello Franjo,

I have a short question. I want to know, if all the guides are translated in german? I mean, I understand everything good, but sometimes it would be helpfull to read them in german.

If not, it´s ok too.

therefore I couldn´t run. The option "external tools" is for running the program. But like you can see in the  picture I uploaded, (what ever function I set oder reset) it won´t run/work. For example the Example Program in the workbench "LedandButton" only flashed on the XDK, but the run-function doesn´t work. I also searching an output window for the "hello World" test, to look, where or what the code is doing.

there are some options but nothing showed me, when the if-case work like this is printf("Output A/n"); , or the next if-case is printf("Output B/n");

Hello Merve,

Unfortunately, the XDK guides are not available in German. The XDK community accommodates a lot of international XDK users. Translations to different languages are not planned currently.

But if there is anything unclear, you can open a ticket about that topic and can also describe your request in German, if you like.

Regarding your other issues, first of all, you do not need to use the external tools option, since there are none to be used with the XDK.

To run and test programs, you can simply flash the application onto the XDK and let it run by pressing the Boot button below the Flash button. Usually, an application is automatically booted when you flash it onto the XDK.

So, after you flashed LedsAndButtons , simply press one of the two buttons, and the XDK and the XDK-Workbench should react.

As for the printf() usage, they will not be printed immediately, unless the string includes "\n\r" , such as "hello world\n\r" . In your strings, you used a normal slash, i.e. / and not \ . I hope this helps clear up the issue.

Anything the XDK prints using printf will be shown in the XDK Device Console, as seen in your screenshot at the bottom of the XDK-Workbench.

Please let me know if that was helpful and feel free to ask if you have further questions.

Kind regards,
Franjo

Just a stupid question: where can I see the output when I want a easy print-out about the "printf();" function?!

Therefore I found a mising element beyond in the guide :)

have a nice weeknd!!!

Hello Merve,

I am glad to hear that everything worked out for you.

Regarding the sensor guide's code snippet, thank you very much for the hint regarding the missing closing bracket. This will be fixed as soon as possible.

Please feel free to ask if you have any further question or concern.

Kind regards,
Franjo
