Hello, I am new to the XDK and the workbench. I downloaded the StreamSensorDataOverUsb and made no modifications to it. I am using workbench version 1.60. When trying to build I get this message and error:

application.mk:73: *** mixed implicit and normal rules.  Stop.
Makefile:39: recipe for target 'debug' failed
mingw32-make: *** [debug] Error 2

Refer to the screenshot below. Any help is appreciated!

Hello Garret,

welcome to the XDK community. First of all, have you imported the example over the welcome screen to your workspace ?
I would suggest you to try out another project from the welcome screen. Additionally you can clean the current project and try to build it again.

Please tell me if this solves your problem.

Kind regards,
Franjo

Hi, I imported it into my workspace and created a new project and selected one under the XDK example projects. I chose the XDK toolchain. Cleaning the project had no effect.

Interesting, I instead launched it directly from the welcome screen and now it is working. Not sure what I did wrong previously.

Hello Garret,

I am glad to hear that you could fix the issue on your own. We will release a new first steps guide soon.
This guide will cover exactly this use case and give new users a better start as well as some guidance on how to use the XDK and the XDK Workbench.
Stay tuned.

Kind regards,
Franjo

I ran into this issue today, as I bought the device for my company. This was the first thread I found mentioning the issue so I tought I should post my solution.

I made a default installation of the Workspace 3.6.0. Then I created a new Eclipse-Mitra project from the Welcome screen. When trying to build the project I ran into the error.

The problem seems to be the path to the project files. My workspace was located in my user directory, containing a directory (my home directory) with spaces due to my name-surname.

When I switched the workspace to another directory not containing spaces I could build the project.

Hope that helps someone.
