Hi Dear,
We are using the XDK for prototype development, if later on we go to real product phase then we could need to transplant the existing code we write on XDK workbench to a SL Cortex board developed by our own. so the questions are:
1. Could the XDK Workbench be used for other Silicon Labs MCU debugging or just the XDK?
2. Could I copy the code from the XDK workbench, and build a project in the IDE provided by Silicon labs ( simplicity studio), and then the code will run? I would suppose that I have to at least modify some drivers right?

Thank you!

Dear benwang,

a big part of the XDK and the XDK workbench is the SDK including all samples, toolkits and any other software connected with the XDK. All of this is intellectual property of Bosch and is protected under international law. Flashing and/or modifing this source code onto a different board where it's not intended, would be against many laws, the copyright among those.

Your own source code though, excluding any intellectual property of Bosch, is your own intellectual property and you can use it as you like, e.g. flashing it onto another plattform. Your source just needs to be compatible with the SDK of the other board, which it most likely isn't due to different interfaces/methods and so on ...

Please understand that we can't give you any support in this matter and we can only recommend you not to follow through with this, as it would be against the licenses of the XDK.

Regarding your own source code, as mentioned you are free to use and port that to any other plattform, if these platforms are compatible, you should be able to use the exact same source in any other IDE.

Hi Benwang,
What Florian wrote is completely correct HOWEVER the entire goal of XDK is to enable people like you to create series products out of XDK!! For this you need a sensor platform and your embedded code. I assume you have figured out which sensors and components you need moving forward. We can put together a new stripped down and cost effective version of the XDK to support you based on your requirements, as well as figuring out how to best apply SW elements of XDK plus your code. We of course know all the SW licenses very well and can definitely help you to get the most out of your hard work, without getting tied up in any legal issues!
I will follow up with an email so that we can proceed from here.
Best wishes,
William
